My kids are scared. Scared for their friends, their community, their future.

Because I’m a “fixer,” I wanted to create a sort of gratitude journal where anyone could find some online prompts to put in an online secret journal or safe space if they just need to write their way through any messy emotions that might be swirling.

Use these however you see fit. You are seen. You are loved. You matter.

SAFETY FIRST:
If you are looking for a secret and safe gratitude journal amid the current state of legislation and misunderstanding, creating one can provide comfort, support, and a space to express your emotions. Here are some suggestions to make your gratitude journal discreet and secure:

Choose a discreet format: Opt for a digital journal rather than a physical one, as it can be easily hidden and password-protected. Consider using apps and websites like Penzu, Journey, or Day One for password-protected journaling.

Encrypt your journal: To ensure privacy, use encryption software like VeraCrypt to create an encrypted container to store your journal. This adds an extra layer of security and ensures that only you can access the contents.

Create a private blog: Alternatively, create a private blog using platforms like WordPress, Blogger, or Tumblr. Make sure to set the blog to “private” or “invite-only” to keep it hidden from search engines and the public.

Use a pseudonym: When writing in your journal, consider using a pseudonym or an alias. This helps maintain anonymity and protects your identity if the journal is accidentally discovered.

Password-protect files: If using a word processor like Microsoft Word or Google Docs, password-protect the document to keep it safe from unauthorized access.

Set up regular reminders: Establish a routine by setting up regular reminders on your phone or using a calendar app to prompt you to write in your journal daily.

Utilize prompts and inspiration: Seek out prompts, quotes, or stories that inspire you to reflect on your experiences and practice gratitude. Focus on topics like self-acceptance, resilience, and finding support within the LGBTQ+ community.

Encourage emotional expression: Remember that your journal is a safe space to express your thoughts, feelings, and emotions. Be open and honest about your experiences, as this can be therapeutic and help build resilience.

Backup your journal: Regularly back up your journal to a secure cloud storage service or an external hard drive to prevent data loss.

Seek support and understanding: Reach out to friends, family, or support groups who can help you navigate challenges you may face. This sense of connection and understanding can be a source of comfort and safety.

By following these steps, you can create a secret and safe gratitude journal that provides a space for you to find comfort and solace amid challenging times.
